Creative T15 Wireless Review

Creative T15 Wireless Review. Today on the test bench is the T15 from Creative. The brand needs no introduction, they’ve been around since the dawn of time. No, not really but they’ve been with us for a while now, and they are often seen as the go-to brand, for pure quality.

The range of products they currently have is nothing short of mind blowing. They’ve seriously expanded their lineup, over the last few years. The T15, is a multipurpose product to suit wireless and cabled (3.5mm) users. In terms of looks and performance, on paper, it has both and this is furthered sweetened with a respectable price tag of just £44.99

The T15 might be the best product for you…so let’s find out, is it any good?

[Packaging]

The exterior box was larger than I expected, but thats always a good sign. As suspected the internals were packaged extremely well, with a mass of padding and protection. From the front side of the box we’re shown all the key information, and how the product looks. Around the side, the additional features are explained in detail too.

Inside the box, we obviously have the T15 speakers and some documentation. No 3.5mm cable was found, after checking that’s normal and not a shipping error. Strange right?

[First Look & Impressions]

The T15 is a two piece set, no additional sub is included. The product is made up with a mix of matte black plastic, and a glossy front panel. Accented with silver on the tweeters. It’s worth paying attention to the product depth, if you intend to sit these up on a shelf. (Around 7 inches deep)

From the front side, the Creative T15 Wireless features dedicated tweeters for excellent high frequency response and custom selected drivers for distinctive midrange audio playback.

For your convenience and easy access, controls such as power, volume and tone adjustments are all conveniently located on the front panel. The tone control encompasses treble and bass to cater to your playback preference. Also, easy connection via integrated line-in and headphone jacks can also be done on the back of the satellite.

tilt

It’s not immediately obvious that the T15 has a slanted design, the front gloss panel is designed with a 10° angle tilt for the optimal audio throw.

With the built-in BasXPort™ technology, each speaker is integrated with a large port tube to channel sound waves from the inner chamber of the satellite to the soundstage, giving you high-output bass.

Around the back we have what you’d expect. A power connector, a jack for the left speaker  and the 3.5mm audio input. Sure the product is marketed as a wireless one, with the emphasis on Bluetooth. But…surely a 3.5mm cable could have been included? The reality is, these cables unless you’re an audiophile will only cost a few pounds, so no big deal I guess. A surprise addition was the headphone jack but to be honest I’m not seeing the point.

The T15 does not have portability, it’s a fixed device that needs to be connected to a power outlet right? What if you want to use them up on a shelf? The inclusion of a headphone jack might appeal to some, but here in my setup, it seem pointless.

The power cable and the connecting wire to the right speaker, are both 1.5m in length. That will work in some environments, but the following image taken direct from Creative own website, almost contradicts the likelihood that will work for some users…

[Usage & Experience]

*Foreword*
As I product reviewer it’s my responsibility to deliver a truthful, fair and accurate analysis. I work with many product types, and for the bulk of which  I have a predetermined testing method. These methods are set to ensure one product can be directly compared to the next. However some peripherals such as this, keyboards and mice are the exceptions. There is no industry standard benchmarks or test method. The method I devised on based on a realistic usage of such products… Simply using them

We initially hooked them directly to a PC with a 3.5mm cable, and they work as you would hope, driver and hassle free. No issues to report here.

Creative are pushing this as a wireless product. The idea of the T15, is to offer something different I suspect, adding a fixed power cable grants the device enough oomph to perform better than the battery limited alternatives. Thing is…the knock on effect of doing so, removes the portability aspect of similar devices.

Audio quality and general performance, is great. Not amazing, but great when you consider there is no additional sub here. The Tone dial handles both treble and bass control, so it’s somewhat limited. That said, the amount of bass the T15 is able to pump out is very impressive. At the maximum levels it struggles and distorts, however.

The Bluetooth side of the product is executed very well, connectivity is butter smooth. Not strictly a problem, but worth mentioning is the annoying LED on the front side of the product, it has its purpose but I’m not keen on it.

Perhaps I’m being over critical but in short, The T15 want’s to a jack of all trades, but it’s a master of none sadly. Consider what you want from the product though, it may still tick all the boxes, and you shouldn’t dismiss it completely.

[Final Thoughts TL:DR]

The T15 is a very good pair of speakers, sadly they do have some shortcomings. The power cable is short, the LED is likely to annoy and the Bass is unpleasant at their highest levels but…. put these issues aside, (honestly they won’t bother everyone anyhow) what you’re left with is  a solid and pleasing piece of kit. The quality generally is fabulous and I can’t believe the asking price is so low.

Visually the T15 speakers are beautiful, they will look great no matter where you place them. Due to then angled design, there’s no right or wrong spot. For 45 pounds or so, the T15 is a product you should definitely consider.

[Positive]

  • Sleek and enticing design
  • Bluetooth support
  • Powerful but manageable bass/treble with a single dial
  • Clear and crisp mid tones

[Negative]

  • No 3.5mm Cable
  • No individual control of bass/treble
  • Blue LED may annoy some
  • Short Power Lead

Despite the T15’s shortcomings, for what they can do, I must grant silver. This is based on raw performance, looks and price tag. If you need more control and functionally you ought to consider the T30 instead, they have individual control for bass and treble, NFC connection and Glass Fiber Cone Drivers
